Vibram is an Italian company based in Albizzate that manufactures rubber outsoles for footwear. In 1936, after the death of six alpinists that was partly blamed on inadequate footwear, Vitale Bramani decided to develop a new climbing sole. In the 1940’s, Bramani founded the company Vibram whose name is a combination of his own name. He invented the first rubber lug soles for mountaineering boots, which was designed to provide excellent traction on the widest range of surfaces. In 2005, Vibram launched the revolutionary FiveFingers, which are inspired by the barefoot phenomenon. Thus, the FiveFingers mimic the look and mechanics of being barefoot. Its thin, flexible soles are contoured to the shape of the human foot, including visible individual sections for the toes. The FiveFingers are a natural alternative for different indoor and outdoor activities such as running, hiking, yoga, sailing and martial arts. Several health benefits have also been found : decreased risk of ankle sprain, improved mobility for the toes, strengthening of the foot and leg muscles, better balance, posture and agility.
